Delhi protest: Abhijeet Dipke detained on board plane, CJP founder says ‘Karlo arrested’ | VIDEO | Today’s news

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was detained on board a flight from Mumbai to Delhi ahead of a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Saturday (October 10) against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

In a video clip shot on the plane, police were seen entering the plane Dipke was traveling in, causing chaos on board. The flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi around 11:00 AM on Saturday.

“Aray mai arrest hone ke liye hi aaya hun. Karlo arrest (I came here to be arrested; arrest me),” Abhijeet Dipke told police in Delhi when asked for his “cooperation”.

“No, this is not an arrest. Please cooperate,” Delhi Police personnel told Dipke. The video shows Dipke shaking hands and asking the officials if he could at least take his bag with him.

Dipke also shared a video on Instagram saying, “So you can see the Delhi Police entering the plane to arrest us. They are all entering the plane. We have just landed. All the Delhi Police are standing in the aisle. They are trying to arrest us from inside the plane.”

He said, “The entire Delhi Police is boarding the plane… This is the fear of Narendra Modi… Even Indira Gandhi did not do this during the Emergency. All we wanted to do is a peaceful protest and they are taking us off the flight as if we were criminals.”

“You can see where the nation is going. They are here to arrest us right off the flight. This is something that even Indira Gandhi didn’t do. This is a dictatorship where the Delhi Police have boarded the flight and are trying to arrest us. Come arrest us. We are here to arrest you. Come arrest us. We are here to arrest you… We are not afraid of you,” Dipke is heard saying.

Delhi CJP protest

The CJP is holding a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Saturday 10 October. Several political parties are expected to join the demonstrations.

The protest is being held to demand the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in which around 13 million people were “left out”.

Delhi police detained more than 150 protesters just before the protest. Youtuber Dhruv Rathee was held at his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56. CJP founders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were reportedly also detained.

Following the protests, tight security was deployed in parts of Delhi. More than 200 trains were cancelled, 45 Delhi Metro stations were closed and mobile internet services were restricted in some areas around Jantar Mantar.

Heavy stone barricades were placed at the Ghazipur border in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday as a security measure on the day of the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
