A rice mill in Yadadri-Bhongir district was found to be short of more than 6,300 metric tonnes of government paddy worth around ₹23.03 crore including penalties, prompting the police to register a case against two mill owners on suspicion of misusing the stock.

The irregularities came to light during a physical inspection of paddy and Custom Milled Rice (CMR) stocks on Wednesday (October 7) at Shiva Parboiled Industries in Raigiri village under Bhongir Rural police station limits.

According to the police, officials and technical staff of Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (TGSCSCL) conducted the inspection to verify the government paddy field allotted to the mill for the 2025-26 Kharif season.

The inspection revealed a shortage of approximately 6,302.80 metric tons of government rice. The value of the missing stock, including applicable penalties, was estimated at ₹23,03,67,347.

Following the findings, TGSCSCL Yadadri district manager Dachepalli Harikrishna, 47, lodged a complaint with the Bhongir rural police alleging irregularities in the handling of government paddy rice entrusted to the mill for self-milling.

Under the custom milling arrangement, government-supplied paddy rice is processed by rice mills, which are required to supply a specified amount of milled rice back to the government.

The complaint alleged that the mill’s management failed to account for the allocated paddy stock and failed to meet its obligations regarding the supply of custom-milled rice.

Acting on the complaint, the Bhongir Rural Police registered a case against the partners of the mill, Gampa Nagender and Manchal Ravinder. Police said investigations are underway to determine how the stock went missing and determine the circumstances surrounding the suspected misuse of government rice.
