Nana Patekar’s last rites performed at his estate in Pune with full state honours

Thousands of people from various walks of life bid farewell to veteran actor Nana Patekar late on Thursday (October 8, 2026) night as his remains were sent to flames at his farmhouse in Donje village of Pune district.

The last rites of the 75-year-old actor, who essayed many memorable roles on the silver screen, were performed with full state honors while singing “Nana Amar Rahe” (Long Live Nana).

Patekar’s son Mr. Malhar lit the pyre.

According to his aides, Patekar has said in the past that he would like to be cremated at his farmhouse.

Patekar, known for his earthy performances in various films like ‘Krantiveer’ and ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’, passed away at his home in Goa in the early hours of Thursday (October 8, 2026). According to the doctors, he is suspected of having a heart attack.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tributes to the actor at the Pune International Airport on the arrival of the mortal remains from Goa in the evening.

Speaking after performing the last rites, Mr. Malhar said his father’s only teaching was that people should unite and follow the right path for the betterment of humanity. “His work through the Naam Foundation (which works for farmers in drought-prone areas) was unparalleled and we will continue it,” Mr. Malhar added.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers Ramdas Athawale and Murlidhar Mohol, State Ministers Chandrakant Patil, Uday Samant and Madhuri Misal, Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare, NAAM Foundation co-founder and actor Makarand Anaspure, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, Saji Jackie Shroff film actor, Saji Jackie Shroff film Nadiadwala and several personalities from Bollywood, politics, sports and social arenas were present.
