Work on the Isarda dam project is being accelerated to meet water supply targets

The ambitious Isarda dam project in Rajasthan’s Tonk district is set to meet water supply targets by expediting work. Built on the Banas River, Isarda is the first technologically advanced dam in the state using advanced Swedish hydraulic systems.

The project aims to supply mains water to urban areas by next month, with connections gradually added in rural areas where the required water infrastructure has been completed.

Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, who visited Tonk district on Thursday (October 8, 2026), reviewed the progress of the dam work and reviewed the status of land acquisition for the upcoming phase of the project. Stressing on timely completion, Mr. Srinivas said the dam would help solve the problem of water scarcity in the neighboring districts of Dausa and Sawai Madhopur.

The second phase of the dam project will see the supply of water to the Ramgarh Dam near Jaipur, which has largely remained dry since 2000, increasing its storage capacity to 10.77 thousand million cubic feet.

The Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of the ‘Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhagidari’ campaign in Tonk district which involves public participation in water conservation works. “Water user associations should be associated with the campaign and events like ‘Jal Chaupal’ should be organized regularly in towns and villages,” said Mr. Srinivasan.
