Satish Dhawan Space Center (SHAR-ISRO) Deputy Director P. Gopi Krishna advocated setting up space cells in educational institutions to include students to design and develop mini-satellites. Such initiatives will help students develop interest in space science, he said.

Addressing a gathering of students and academicians during the inaugural session of World Space Week celebrations here on Thursday, Mr. Gopi Krishna said that private partners and startups are encouraged to play their role in space missions.

Mr. Gopi Krishna said that ISRO has evolved to launch satellites weighing up to six tonnes.

SDSC-SHAR scientist Leela Srinivas said the space week will help promote space missions and improve the scientific mood among students.

Rajamahendravaram Sub-Collector Subham Nokwal advised the students to take inspiration from ISRO’s space missions that started their journey six decades ago.

Former ISRO scientists Tatayyababu and Suryanarayana and Rajamahendravaram Government Arts College Principal R. Ramachandra Rao and Tirumala Educational Institutions Chairman Tirumala Rao participated in the programme.

Students of Trips International School and Future Kids International School performed various classical and folk dances. The winners of the space science painting competition were invited to visit SDSC in Sriharikota.
