Revision of electoral roll reviewed in Visakhapatnam, ASR
Election offices in Visakhapatnam and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts on Thursday reviewed the ongoing electoral roll revision process, with officials directing to ensure that verification and deletion of records is done strictly as per rules.
In Visakhapatnam, Roll Observer S. Bhargavi directed officials to carry out field-level verification of rejected applications and doubtful cases, where necessary, rather than relying only on records. She said a clear reason should be recorded before deleting any voter from the voter’s list and stressed that the field level information and the data entered in ECINet should match.
It called for special scrutiny of areas where large numbers of additions or deletions were recorded and where significant changes were recorded in the details of voters who had previously voted. Officials have also been asked to pay special attention to door number mismatches and expedite pending checks, form verification and super checks. She said that the work in Visakhapatnam South Assembly constituency was good, while more thorough and quality control was needed in North constituency. She also asked officials to continue the SVEEP process.
Joint Collector Gobbilla Vidyadhari said that notices were issued in respect of 2,29,924 electoral records identified under absent, shifted, duplicate and deceased categories and verification was done as per the prescribed procedure.
In Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Collector T. Nishanthi said 4,088 notices have been issued under SIR-2026. Out of 385 cases accepted for verification, 133 persons were found to be ineligible for inclusion in the final list of voters. According to her, special attention is paid to prevent unintentional deletion of eligible voters.
Booth-level officers will conduct door-to-door verification from October 8, whenever required. Eligible persons who are not in the electoral roll can apply through Form 6. After verification, their names can be included through the rolling update process. The final list of voters in the ASR district is scheduled to be published on October 16.
