Virat Kohli pays tribute to Nana Patekar (Image Agency) Indian batting star Virat Kohli has paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing him as a “true legend of Indian cinema” after his death.Patekar died at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. He was 75.Taking to social media, Kohli expressed his condolences and remembered Patekar’s contribution to Indian cinema.

“A true legend of Indian cinema. His work and legacy will live on for generations. Rest in peace Nana Patekar ji. Om Shanti,” Kohli wrote.Patekar was one of the prominent names in Hindi and Marathi cinema. He made his acting debut with Gaman in 1978 and won wide acclaim for his performances in films like Parinda, Prahar, Angaar, Krantiveer, Tiranga, Khamoshi and Ab Tak Chhappan.One of the defining performances of his career was in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda in 1989. His portrayal of ruthless crime boss Anna won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.Patekar has remained active in film in recent years. He appeared in Housefull 5 starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh and played a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri. He also had a cameo in Subedar, which featured Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan.His contribution to cinema was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in 2013.Off-screen, Patekar has also been associated with social initiatives, particularly efforts to support drought-affected farmers and families in Maharashtra.
