The Congress on Thursday (October 8, 2026) hit out at the BJP over alleged “flaws” in the ECINet application, saying it was becoming abundantly clear that it was designed to centralize all deletions and additions from the ruling party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh shared on X a screenshot of a media report that quoted a security researcher who said he had warned the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the country’s cyber security agency CERT-In in July about flaws in the Commission’s Election Services website and its ECINET application.
In his post on X, Mr Ramesh said: “A leading daily reported this morning that on July 8, 2026, a security researcher alerted the Election Commission to several flaws in ECINET. But recognition of one of his several concerns came only on October 6, 2026, when the ECI was under all-out fire and attack.”
“It is becoming abundantly clear that ECINET was designed to centralize all deletions/additions from the BJP headquarters in New Delhi,” Mr. Ramesh alleged.
“Incidentally this researcher is the same young man who completely exposed the IT system of CBSE a few months ago which sealed Mantri Pradhan’s fate among other things. Now it is Pradhan Mantri’s turn,” the Congress leader said.
Mr. Ramesh’s remarks come amid a raging row after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had objected at least 14 times in the past 10 months to decisions and orders, mostly related to the special intensive review process.
Under fire against the red flags raised by two of its commissioners, the ECI states that differing opinions and observations are part of the proceedings in any institution and all its orders carry full legal sanction and follow established legal procedures.
