
On Wednesday, the district collector Arjun Pandian asked for an urgent and detailed report after the discovery of a large crack on the newly chamfering part of the National Motorway (NH) 66 in the village of Manathala, Chavakkad Taluk, where construction is currently under construction.
The crack, estimated to be almost 50 m long, was first reported on May 20 Chavakkad Tahsildar after the region plunged heavy rain. According to the report submitted by Tahsildar, it was seen on Overbridge in front of the Muslim Mosque Manathala and the Temple of Manathala Vishwanatha.
When the images of cracks quickly went viral on social media platforms, the NH authorities covered them with tar.
The collector issued a command that created a high -level committee to carry out a common inspection and present a comprehensive message. The Committee includes officials of the police department, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the Public Work Department (PWD – Roads), land department, groundwater department, Ministry of Geology and income department.

The team is ordered to complete the site’s inspection and present its findings by Thursday. The project director Ernaculam India (Nhai) has been instructed to provide all necessary support for the inspection.
Furthermore, the head of the district police and the RTO are to implement measures to regulate the operation, if necessary during the inspection. PWD Roads, a powerful engineer of the PWD Roads division, was appointed a coordination clerk who compiled and submitted a joint inspection report to the collector in the set timeline.
In addition, the district collector applied for a separate report from the project director Ernaculam of the Nhai project, which underlines the seriousness of the incident.
