ECI special drive until October 9 to register young, first-time eligible voters

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will undertake a special drive till October 9 to enroll young and first-time eligible voters in the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu and other states where the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed.

An official statement from Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said special camps will be held in the districts to enroll youth and first-time eligible voters preferably on October 10.

Special attention will be paid to urban areas and larger cities to increase the number of first-time voters and young voters.

The services of voter literacy clubs in schools and colleges will also be used to create awareness among eligible young voters and facilitate their registration, the report said.

District Election Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to give wide publicity to this special event through media and their official social media. The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will hold regular meetings with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to review and monitor the proceedings and ensure effective implementation of the guidelines, the release added.
