Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital and Dr. Agarwals Institute of Optometry (DAIO) organized an innovative and interactive eye health awareness campaign, See What They See, on Wednesday, a day ahead of World Sight Day.
As part of the initiative, undergraduate optometry students at the institute designed specially adapted simulation glasses to mimic the visual impact of various conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and refractive errors in four locations. More than 1,400 individuals have worn the glasses and experienced how these conditions can affect everyday vision, the press release said.
Emphasizing the importance of proactive eye care, Karpagam, Dean, DAIO said that raising awareness about silent eye diseases is essential to motivate people to get annual check-ups. Early detection is the primary line of defense in controlling preventable blindness. Left untreated, these eye conditions can affect independence, productivity and quality of life, and in many cases lead to preventable vision loss.
