Three youths arrested for possession of narcotic tablets in Arakkonam

The Arakkonam city police on Wednesday arrested three youths for possession of 113 narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) near the Arakkonam railway station.

Police said the arrested persons have been identified as S. Ramkumar, 26, V. Udaya Sankar, 19, and K. Vijay, 20. They are residents of Chennai. The initial investigation revealed that on a tip-off to Ranipet SP P. Sibin, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks at public places like bus stands, railway stations and isolated buildings in the district.

At one of these checks. a police team nabbed three suspects near the railway station. The trio checked the bags and found narcotic tablets inside. Investigation revealed that the gang had placed an order for the tablets with pharmacies in Mumbai. The tablets were sent to them by courier.

Police said the gang was on their way to Chennai where they planned to sell these tablets at a retail outlet. A case has been registered and the arrested people have been lodged in Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
