Bandi Sanjay accuses Congress of mudslinging against ECI

Union Home Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has accused the Congress of trying to tarnish the image of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for political gains, saying such attacks on the constitutional body could undermine the democratic system.

Speaking to reporters in Karimnagar on Wednesday, Mr. Sanjay alleged that the Congress was trying to mislead people by spreading what he described as false narratives about Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He said Congress leaders had in the past raised concerns about what they described as 70 lakh fake entries in the electoral rolls of Telangana.

Mr. Sanjay said the Congress should clarify its stand on removing fake, duplicate and dead entries from electoral rolls.

He claimed that a large number of voters associated with illegal immigrants were registered in Telangana, including the Maheshwaram Assembly constituency.
