Mikel Arteta has signed a new deal with Arsenal until 2030 after their Premier League triumph

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030, the English champions announced on Wednesday.

Arteta led Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season ended a long wait for the club and completed a remarkable turnaround that began after he took charge in December 2019.

The Spaniard arrived at a difficult time for Arsenal, replacing Unai Emery with the club struggling in 10th place in the Premier League. Since then, he has been central to the club’s long-term rebuilding plan and helped restore Arsenal’s status among Europe’s top teams.

“I am honored to commit my future to the club and continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said in a statement.

“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel and I feel very privileged that our journey together will continue.”

Arteta ended his playing career in 2016 after five years at Arsenal and subsequently joined Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City as an assistant. He returned to Arsenal three years later and took his first job as a senior manager.

Under Arteta, Arsenal returned to the Premier League’s top five in 2021-22 before finishing as runners-up in three consecutive seasons. They ended last season by winning the league title.

Arsenal also reached the Champions League final under Artetabut lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

The club’s hierarchy have backed Arteta’s vision during the rebuilding process, with Arsenal strengthening key areas of the squad through signings including Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Ben White and goalkeeper David Ray.

The investment paid off. Arteta recorded a 62.05 win percentage in 361 matches as Arsenal manager, the best figure among the club’s full-time managers.

“This is an important period in the history of Arsenal Football Club. We want to create a winning era together with Mikel,” said Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick.

Arteta, 44, said he believed the club’s best years were yet to come.

“We’ve already built a special bond and made memories that will last a lifetime, and what’s so exciting is that this is just the beginning of what we can achieve together,” he added.

Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League and will return from the international break with a home game against Leeds United on Saturday.
