Mithun Chakraborty gets the rank of Cabinet Minister; appointed advisor in CM Suvendu Adhikari’s Bengal government | Today’s news

On Wednesday, BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was appointed Cultural Advisor to the West Bengal government in the rank of Cabinet Minister, according to an official announcement. The appointment was made in the Department of Information and Culture with immediate effect.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari recently appointed Mithun Chakraborty as the State’s Cultural Adviser.

The announcement comes on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years as the Prime Minister.

Film career of Mithun Chakraborty

Mithun Chakraborty is among the popular names of Indian cinema, whose career spans over five decades. He has acted in more than 350 films in Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Bhojpuri and Telugu.

His breakthrough performance came with his debut film Mrigayaa (1976) where he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor. Another blockbuster, Disco Dancer, followed, making him a household name. Some of his other hits include Surakshaa, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Phool Aur Angaar, Tahadeer katha, Golmaal 3 and The Kashmir Files.

Political career

Chakraborty entered politics in 2014 when he joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC). He served as Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha under TMC. At the end of 2016, he resigned his parliamentary mandate and retired from active politics.

In March 2021, he made a major political comeback by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Since then, Mithun Chakraborty has been an active campaigner for the BJP in West Bengal.
