Four-storey residential building collapses in Delhi’s Seemapuri, several feared trapped | Today’s news
A residential building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday. Several people are feared to be trapped inside, prompting a rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
Seemapuri building collapse, rescue operation underway
The incident occurred in the afternoon after the front of the four-story building collapsed, according to an officer.
DFS received a call about the collapse at 3:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene.
“Search and rescue operation is going on,” a DFS officer told PTI.
Six people were taken to hospital
According to the latest developments, about five to six people have been taken to the hospital. The rescue operation is still ongoing. JCB trucks were spotted at the scene of the accident.
Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena updated PTI: “So far around five to six people have been taken to the hospital. The rescue operation is still going on. We will know once all the information is gathered. Currently, two to three people are still seen inside and they are also communicating with us. The rescue operation is going on.”
Transport consultancy
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for commuters following the accident. Traffic was affected in areas like Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and nearby places due to the incident.
Delhi Traffic Police posted on X: “A multi-storey building has collapsed at Seemapuri and rescue teams are at the scene. Traffic is affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. Every clear lane allows ambulance and emergency vehicles to pass faster. Avoid the area if possible. Do not stop, park or congregate near the site of traffic. Follow traffic police instructions.”
Satya Niketan Boys PG incident
The incident comes a month after the collapse of Delhi’s Satya Niketan PG. On September 6, a PG boy collapsed in the area, killing seven people and injuring many.
