Everyone had fun with Ro-Ko. Now, Rohit and Kohli join the joke in a hilarious TV ad

‘Ro-Ko’ are back and this time they’re having fun

“Bro, it’s been years.

“But it’s still fun just the same.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have spent nearly two decades playing together for India, but their latest partnership has little to do with runs, wickets or cricket tactics. Two former Indian captains joined hands for a hilarious JioStar ad ahead of India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka, and the biggest joke is one they decided to embrace only recently: Ro-Ko.

just days ago Kohli gave his verdict on the nickname which has become synonymous with the couple. “Ro-Ko has a nice ring to it,” he said, adding that people “had a lot of fun with it.”

ROHIT’S WOH, KOHLI IS JOINING

Now the two have taken this fun a step further. In the ad, Rohit and Kohli reunite for a typically playful exchange. Rohit tells Kohli how long it is before Kohli replies that the fun is still the same.

“Our boys are also very excited,” says Kohli.

“Haan woh,” Rohit replies.

Kohli is confused.

The quip is a nod to one of Rohit’s most famous conversational habits. The former Indian captain often used “woh” to refer to something or someone without immediately recalling the name, leaving those around him to guess what he meant.

This time Kohli is playing along.

Rohit then mimics KL Rahul’s ‘Kantara’ celebration and Kohli gets the link. When it’s time to identify Ravindra Jadeja, Kohli gets in on the joke and uses sign language to help Rohit understand that he means the all-rounder of the sword.

Then comes Shubman Gill. The pair perform Gill’s famous hat-folding celebration and declare that he too is excited.

“It’s a big year, the country is counting on us,” they say.

The timing of the campaign is particularly interesting given the attention surrounding the pair’s ODI future. With both having retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph and from Test cricket in 2025, ODIs are now their only international format.

That was also one of the reasons Kohli said the Ro-Ko brand became so appealing.

“Now that we’re only playing one format, even from a broadcaster’s point of view, I’m sure it’s a very nice slogan to use – ‘Oh, Ro-Ko aa gay! They’re back’,” Kohli said.

And they were certainly back during India’s recent three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

Kohli began the series with a spectacular unbeaten 139 off 88 balls in Thiruvananthapuram, bringing up his 55th ODI century and becoming only the second batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 runs in the format. He followed it up with 29 in the second ODI in Guwahati and seven in the third in New Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, Rohit had scored 32 in the opening before produces 101 off 75 balls in Guwahati. He then made 92 off 85 in the third ODI. His century came in an Indian record 406 as he and Gill shared 255 runs.

India won the series 2–1. They won the first two ODIs by eight wickets before West Indies chased down 352 in the third match to win by five wickets.

Ahead of December’s series in Sri Lanka, the pair will have another task in the ODI against New Zealand. But before they get back on the field, the Ro-Ko are clearly happy to have some fun with the tag that has followed them into this final phase of their international career.
