A three-day workshop on theorizing Kannada criticism at CUK from October 7

A three-day workshop on “Theorizing Kannada Criticism” will be organized at the Department of Kannada, Central University of Karnataka (CUK) from October 7-9.
The workshop will be jointly organized by the Kannada Department of CUK and Karnataka Sahitya Akademi, Bengaluru, under the Department of Kannada and Culture. It will feature 10 sessions comprising discussions, interactions and paper presentations on various dimensions of Kannada literary criticism and its theoretical underpinnings.
The inaugural program will be held at 10:00 a.m. Karnataka Sahitya Akademi President LN Mukundaraj will inaugurate the workshop. The chief guest will be the vice-rector of ČUK Battu Satyanarayana, the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Languages Ganesh Pawar will be present.
The workshop will be addressed by Basavaraj M. Kodagunti, Principal, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysuru, and Ramalingappa T. Begur, Principal, Government First Grade College, Hoskote. Karnataka Sahitya Akademi member and convener Siddarama Honkal will deliver the opening remarks.
Shivaganga Ramma, Head of Kannada Department, CUK will preside over the function.
The three-day workshop will focus on various dimensions of Kannada criticism and its theoretical foundations. Topics discussed include translated works in Kannada literature, approaches to pre-modern literature, Jain literature, Vachan and Shaiva literary criticism, Kannada poetics, selected prefaces and afterwords, vernacular literature, comparative writings, feminist criticism in Kannada, Dalit literary criticism, inscriptional historical studies, Keerthan and Vaishnava literary survey and Kannada literary criticism, literary criticism and criticism kannada from kannada theorizing writings on various philosophical concepts and theories.
There will be a total of 10 sessions during the workshop. Senior writers, scholars, thinkers, professors and experts from across Karnataka will participate online and in person, present papers and participate in discussions.
Sabiha Bhumigowda, former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, will deliver the valedictory address. Karnataka Sahitya Akademi President LN Mukundaraj and Registrar Kariyappa N. will be present.
The chief guests will be ČUK Secretary RR Biradar and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Languages Ganesh Pawar. Shivaganga Ramma, head of the Kannada department, will preside.
Students, researchers, professors and literary enthusiasts from universities and colleges across Karnataka are expected to participate. The workshop is intended to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on the tradition, evolution, contemporary dimensions and theoretical aspects of Kannada literary criticism.
