The Union Cabinet on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years of continuous leadership at the head of the government.
The resolution looked at how Mr. Modi took Gujarat’s initiatives to the national stage. “Prime Minister Modi’s sensitivity to poverty grew from watching his mother struggle with daily hardships and face deprivation during his travels,” he said, linking his experiences with housing, water, banking and healthcare programs.
It lists initiatives aimed at empowering women, encouraging start-ups, expanding opportunities for youth, supporting farmers and vulnerable tribal communities, and also says that more than 25 million people have been lifted out of poverty.
“political risks”
The resolution highlighted Mr Modi’s push for reforms “despite political risks”, referring to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other measures. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, public capital expenditure increased from ₹ 2 lakh to over ₹ 12 lakh, along with expansion of highways and electrification of railways. Electronics manufacturing grew from around ₹ 2 lakh to over ₹ 13 lakh,” the company said.
Defense and semiconductor manufacturing reflected his determination to strengthen India’s ability to meet its needs, the resolution said. Mr. Modi’s faith in technology has emerged through achievements spanning everyday services and scientific frontiers, the resolution said. He mentioned initiatives like Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, leveraging mobile connectivity for better welfare delivery and UPI.
“The development of India’s own COVID vaccines and the landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the South Pole of the Moon demonstrated Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a scientifically capable, self-sufficient Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said, highlighting private space involvement and work in the areas of AI, quantum technology and biotechnology.
“The resolution highlights Prime Minister Modi’s ability to steer India through global upheavals. During COVID, he united the country, supported domestic vaccine development and enabled rapid vaccination. During the crisis in West Asia, early decisions and energy security measures helped India weather the disruption,” the government said.
The resolution said the surgical strikes in 2016, Balakot airstrikes in 2019 and Operation Sindoor in 2025 illustrated the national security red lines Mr. Modi had put in place. It also welcomed the decision on Article 370, One Rank One Pension and the creation of the post of Chief of Defense Staff. She said the action against Maoist terrorism and the peace efforts in the North East reflect leadership combining determination, development and stability.
About foreign policy
On foreign policy, the resolution cited the G20 and BRICS consensus, the advocacy of the Global South and the inclusion of the African Union in the G20. “Vaccine Maitri has demonstrated how India’s capabilities can serve others. The honors from 36 countries underscore the international respect that accompanies Prime Minister Modi and India’s growing influence and contribution to shared solutions,” he said.
