The Supreme Court on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) dismissed a plea seeking to have the preamble of the Constitution recited during morning assembly in schools.

“Dismissed,” said a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Augustin George Masih and Sandeep Mehta.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the application sought a direction to have the preamble recited in schools during the morning assembly.

He referred to Article 21A of the Constitution, which deals with the right to education.

“The preamble is already being taught in schools in class 6,” the Bench observed while dismissing the petition.
