He subsequently missed the US Open and the North American and Asian hard courts. Sinner confirmed his decision on social media, saying he made the call after consulting with his doctors.
Sinner prefers a long-term career
“Hello everyone. I would like to give you a little update. Me and the doctors have decided that I need treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over. The last few years, especially the end in Turin, have given me so many beautiful feelings and emotions that this year will be completely different, but at the moment I also have to think about my long-term career, I will be 0% already. Thank you, so 0%. Thank you for your support and I hope to see you very, very soon see you again on the court, Ciao, ciao,” he said.
Five Masters 1000 titles underline a stellar season
Before the injury setback, Sinner enjoyed one of the most dominant stretches of his career. He won five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome to complete the Career Golden Masters.The Italian also extended his dominance at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he entered the season as a two-time reigning champion. Sinner’s remarkable run included a 30-match winning streak that ended in the second round of the French Open when he lost to Juan Manuel Cerundol.
Wimbledon triumphed in his last appearance
Sinner bounced back from the Roland Garros setback in emphatic fashion to win Wimbledon and claim his first grass-court Grand Slam title. He defeated Alexander Zverev in the final to lift the trophy in what turned out to be his last appearance of the 2026 season.At the beginning of the year, Sinner also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.
