According to Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, up to 30% of public grievances received at Praja Seva sessions have been resolved.
Addressing the second district level Praja Seva meeting at Khanapur in Belagavi district on October 5, he said that around 250 requests were received from the people in the first district level Praja Seva meeting at Yaragatti. “Of these, about 30% are resolved. The rest are in various stages of resolution. Around 200 petitions were received in the second session on October 5. They will be sent to the jurisdiction with clear instructions and will be resolved as soon as possible,” he said.
“I have issued instructions to expedite the review and resolution of outstanding applications through relevant departments.
Mr. Roshan said most of the complaints were against the Forest Department, Public Works Department, Revenue Department and matters related to allotment of cremation sites and construction of school buildings. “Complaints filed by people will be investigated on priority and necessary steps will be taken to resolve them expeditiously in accordance with the rules,” he said.
The minister tells the officials to solve the problems quickly
PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi said that the Karnataka government has set up a new Public Grievances Department and launched Praja Seva Andolan in campaign mode to solve the problems of the people at the local level. “Officials must take immediate steps to resolve public grievances. Whatever can be resolved at the local level should be done. There is no need to hand over all the files to your senior officers if it can be resolved easily at your level,” he said.
“The campaign provides an opportunity for people to raise their problems directly with officials and elected representatives. We want to bring government services to the people. Officials should try not only to respond to public complaints, but also to increase transparency in administration. If possible, we should try to provide solutions to people’s problems on the spot. Otherwise, people will think it is just a ritual,” he said.
