Election authorities have formally lodged a police complaint against a person who requested mass deletion of voters in Musheerabad constituency on the basis of false declaration in Form 7, as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The complaint followed Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy’s instructions to all district election officers to take action against complainants who knowingly made false statements in Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 under the provisions of Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Director General also observed that such a suit should be preceded by an inquiry under Rule20 of the Rules, 1960.

The complaint was reportedly filed by Musheerabad Election Registration Officer Praveen Kumar Reddy at the Chikkadpally police station after investigating the case. Since it was a non-cognizable offence, the police made an entry in the General Journal and handed it over to the court. Further steps will be as directed by the court, sources said.

The accused in the case named Balachander was said to be a booth level agent (BLA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and had allegedly filed applications to delete 31 members of the same family, including the Congress BLA.

The application forms were pre-printed with voters’ names, leading to suspicions and allegations that the forms were generated centrally by the BJP and distributed to its BLA for dispatch. However, party leaders refuted these allegations.

Later, similar forms with pre-printed voter information surfaced from Bahadurpura and Goshamahahal constituencies, adding strength to the allegations. All the names on the forms were Muslim, leading to allegations of a deliberate attempt to target the community. Similar stories emerging from other states fueled the suspicions.

The complaints and objections phase of the SIR process ends on 7 October 2026, with a deadline for disposal on 5 November 2026. The final electoral rolls will be published on 9 November 2026.
