4.63 lakh will be released in the Palakkad reservoirs

Palakkad district fisheries and panchayat department will release 4.63 lakh walleye tanks across the district as part of a program to increase inland fish stocks and support fishermen. The program will cover six reservoirs in the district: Walayar, Kanjirapuzha, Mangalam, Pothundi, Chulliyar and Meenkara.

The aim of the project is to increase fish stocks, ensure a steady income for fishermen and ensure the supply of quality fish. Fisheries from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe fishing cooperatives are engaged in fishing in these reservoirs. District panchayat president SB Raju inaugurated the release of cubs at the Walayar tank on Monday. The district panchayat has allocated ₹20 lakh for the project.

Pudussery panchayat president V. Bijoy presided over the function. Deputy director of fisheries KT Anitha, Malampuzha panchayat block development standing committee chairman VC Udayakumar, fisheries extension officer A. Faisal and fisherfolk attended the function.
