Uttar Pradesh state capital Lucknow is witnessing severe flooding after two decades as the level of Gomti river continues to rise. Prominent places across the city including Hanumant Dham, Gomti Nagar riverfront, Prayag Sthal and Faizullaganj were partially submerged. At Hanumant Dham, the temple domes, drive and surrounding vehicles were flooded, prompting authorities to close the area for prayers. Gomti Nagar waterfront was also closed for visitors due to alarming water levels. Lucknow Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar said the civic body and district administration have deployed more than 70 boats, set up temporary and permanent shelters and organized medical camps. SDRF and NDRF teams have been mobilized to evacuate residents who are stranded, while food, medicine and food supplies are being delivered by boat to those who choose to stay in the upper floors. A 24/7 control room has been set up to respond to emergency calls within one to two hours.
