Federation of West India Cinema Employees (FWICE) president BN Tiwari confirmed the incident to India Today.
According to Tiwari, the fire started in one of the tents outside the studio, not on the main set itself. According to him, the situation was managed quickly and the damage was minor.
Tiwari also pointed to the recent fire at a nearby location and said the incident prompted FWICE to contact producers and ask them to beef up security measures on film sets.
“There was a fire in a nearby place a few days ago after which we have approached all the manufacturers and asked them to ensure proper safety measures,” Tiwari told India Today.
He added that the latest incident should serve as a warning to film crews to be more careful and take adequate precautions against such accidents.
The premises of Prime Focus Studios are also used for the production of TV shows including Hustle and Pati Patni Panga. Reports stated that the fire did not cause any injuries among the cast or crew in the vicinity and filming continued after the situation was brought under control.
More about upcoming movie Ramayana
The incident comes as Ramayana enters an important phase ahead of its theatrical release. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the two-part epic features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Lord Hanuman while Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. The ensemble also features Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh.
The film was edited on an international scale and its visual effects were handled by DNEG. The first part is now officially titled Ramayana: Part 1 and is scheduled for a worldwide release on November 6, 2026. The second part is slated for Diwali 2027.
With the film set to release in just weeks, production in Mumbai continues under heightened scrutiny. So far, however, the latest incident has resulted in no reported injuries and the fire was extinguished before it could cause wider disruption.
