Forum for Constitutional Democracy criticizes Delhi Police for inaction on harassment complaints against ACP

The Forum for Constitutional Democracy (FCD) on Monday condemned the Delhi Police for not registering an FIR against Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKT) Vivek Bhagat, who was accused of harassing three women journalists.

In a statement, the FCD said the Delhi Police received three complaints against the officer and forwarded them to the crime branch for investigation. However, she claimed that no FIR has been registered so far despite the complaints. The organization also pointed out that two of the complainants had previously filed complaints against the same official, but no action was allegedly taken.

The FCD also said that the police could first register an FIR and then hand over the case to the crime branch for investigation. Instead, he claimed the authorities decided to conduct a preliminary investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage, before registering a case.

The forum demanded speedy investigation into the complaints, immediate registration of an FIR against the ACP and its suspension pending investigation.

FCD has expressed concern over Delhi Police’s handling of the matter, terming the response alarming and calling for accountability. The statement was issued by FCD convener K. Ramachandra Murthy and supported by former Supreme Court judge Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, academics G. Haragopal, Shantha Sinha, Rama Melkote, Telangana Press Academy chairman K. Sreenivas Reddy, MLC M. Kodandaram, D. Narsimha Redthy and senior advocate G. Reddy Gadddy.
