At a time when recruitments to government jobs are often delayed due to legal disputes over alleged corruption and nepotism by the Karnataka Public Service (KPSC), the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has successfully issued notifications, conducted competitive exams and announced results for 7,905 posts across various cadres of the police department, all within four months.

The recruitment process for these posts will be completed in two further stages: conducting the physical fitness test and issuing appointment orders to the eligible candidates. As a result, candidates who have been waiting for years for government jobs are expected to join the Karnataka Police within the next three months.

After a hiatus of many years, the state government has announced plans to fill around 75,000 government posts over the next two years, temporarily solving the internal reservation problem. This time she leaned towards recruitment in KEA as KPSC got embroiled in controversies.

KEA started the process in June to fill 7,905 vacancies in the police department. A total of 8,68,985 candidates from across Karnataka applied for these posts. KEA conducted the competitive exam between August 2 and September 20, 7,13,662 candidates appeared for the exam. KEA announced the results between August 21 and September 25 and the recruitment process has now reached its final stage.

No controversy or delay

H. Prasanna, Executive Director, KEA, told The Hindu: “The government has ordered the recruitment exams to be conducted on a war footing. We completed the process in four months. Especially the results for KSRP, KSISF and IRB posts were declared within a week of the examination.”

“There is not a single complaint or litigation regarding the exam. There are no complaints regarding irregularities in the exam. There were no translation errors in the question paper. As a result, there were no mistakes on the part of KEA or the student community. We conducted the exam in a disciplined manner to ensure that there was no room for confusion,” he said.

“So that the candidates have no doubts about the exam, we uploaded the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets on the website on the very day of the exam. We announced the results within a week of the exam. For the first time, we announced the results along with the categories claimed by all the candidates. These candidates will secure employment within three months,” informed Mr. Prasanna.

Purushottama NR, a job seeker from Bengaluru said, “I am a graduate and have been preparing for government jobs for the past six years. I applied for the posts of Civil Police Constable and KSRP Constable. It is surprising that KEA conducted the exam so quickly and released the results without any controversy or confusion. After passing this physical exam, I expect to join the police department.”
