Unauthorized extensions and changes contrary to fire safety and rules of buildings reportedly hindered rescue operations in a textile complex near the Kozhikode Moofussil bus stand, where massive fire broke out on Sunday (May 19). Police sources said the East of the fire was blocked and the ventilation was poor, which makes it difficult for rescuers access to the affected areas.
The district collector Snehil Kumar Singh said that a detailed investigation would be carried out with the support of experts in clarification of concerns. “We cannot confirm the cause or comment on suspicion of breach of building rules or unauthorized extensions without proper control. It will be thoroughly explored,” he told the media on Sunday.
Officials Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti said that four -hour firefighting efforts revealed the inability of the city effectively to drive such a main emergency. They added that, according to preliminary estimates, textile shop owners suffered losses around 50 Crore.
