Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Sunday (October 4, 2026) that Bhadohi district has been renamed as Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi. Speaking at a function in the district, Mr. Adityanath added, “Now Bhadohi district will be called Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi.”

The CM inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 112 projects worth over ₹1,340 crore. “On Guru Purnima, we said that Bhadohi district, which is famous for its carpet industry, will be named after Satguru Ravidas ji Maharaj, a medieval saint who united the society through his spiritual devotion,” the UP CM said.

Mr. Adityanath added, “UP was once a state with unlimited potential, but the BIMARU mindset of the previous governments destroyed it. We have turned the state around and artisans and craftsmen who were once forced to migrate in search of livelihood now have a platform to showcase their skills. Before 2017, businesses were in dire straits due to curfew, riots and lawless threats, no one brandishing a gun from an open jeep. No one can either undermine the safety of women.”

The CM said, “Today, the carpet industry has access to technology, design and markets along with better connectivity and security. Bhadohi carpets are creating an identity in the global market. Before 2017, there was frustration and despair in Uttar Pradesh. Artisans could not find work and domestic and foreign buyers were reluctant to visit (the government included the Bhado-OPne carpet scheme) in Bhadohi District and One Product Connected artisans to critical resources.”
