Youth arrested for allegedly shooting neighbor in Kozhikode

A 59-year-old woman was injured after a youth fired an air gun at her following a land boundary dispute at Vellayil in Kozhikode on Sunday (October 4, 2026).

The injured woman, Pushpalatha, a native of Chettithoppuparamba, was allegedly shot in the abdomen. Police have taken Shimjith (40), a native of Vellayil, into custody in connection with the incident.

According to preliminary investigation, the two had an argument on Sunday morning over a boundary issue. Shimjith allegedly used an air pistol he was carrying and fired at the woman.

She was initially taken to Kozhikode Government General Hospital and later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode for further treatment.

The dispute is said to be related to a horse shed that Shimjith had built in front of his house, adjacent to Mrs. Pushpalatha’s land boundary. He keeps two horses there.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, including how Shimjith obtained the air pistol.
