The All India Students’ Association (AISA) says its president Neha was taken away by police personnel during a protest in central Delhi on Sunday evening (October 4, 2026) and demanded her immediate release, saying her whereabouts were not disclosed to her co-workers.

Ms. Neha was later released at Narela Industrial Area Police Station. AISA said that Ms Neha’s phone and bag had not been returned and that they would send a team of lawyers to the police station.

In a complaint addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner and seen by The Hindu, AISA alleged that Ms Neha was taken from Ashoka Road near Shangri-La Hotel and Jantar Mantar at around 5 pm by male police personnel who did not have name tags.

The organization claimed that she was taken in a private Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with registration number “DL1CAH9693” and that there was no woman police personnel in the vehicle.

“Since then, no person has been able to contact or locate Neha, including her friends and associates who were with her at the protest site,” the complaint said.

The organization described the incident as “kidnapping and illegal detention” and expressed concern for Ms. Neha’s safety.

AISA also claimed that the police did not inform the organization or its associates where she was taken.

The incident took place during a civic march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar that was called for Sunday (October 4).

The organization further argued that keeping the woman in police custody after sunset was illegal, arguing that the lack of information about Ms. Neha’s detention and whereabouts amounted to illegal imprisonment. She urged the Delhi Police Commissioner to look into the matter “with utmost urgency” and release Ms Neha immediately.
