Techie drowns in the Jigani Quarry
The body of a 30-year-old technician who drowned while swimming in a quarry near Yellammanadoddi near Jigani was recovered on Sunday after a two-day search operation.
The deceased was identified as Ganesh Anjaneya Vinay, 30, a native of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, who worked for a private software company in Bengaluru and was a resident of Ulsoor.
Vinay planned the trek on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and joined a group of eight people who connected through an Instagram group.
During the trek, the group went swimming in a water-filled stone quarry. According to the police, some members of the group, including young men and women, had allegedly jumped into the quarry from the rocks and were swimming when Vinay suddenly drowned and disappeared.
Following the incident, fire and rescue services teams, disaster response teams along with a team of specialist divers led by Eshwar Malpe conducted an intensive search in the quarry.
After nearly two days of effort, Vinay’s body was found in the waters of the quarry and was recovered. The body was taken to a private hospital in Anekal for further procedures.
The Jigani police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the drowning.
