Video of Porsche Crash Accused ‘Post-Bail’ Celebration Goes Viral; family says ‘old’ clip, claims ‘mental trauma’ | Today’s news

A public outcry erupted on social media over a purported video that many claimed showed the Pune Porsche accident family celebrating after being granted bail in the case.

As the video was widely circulated on social media, the family issued an explanation, saying the viral clip had been “taken out of context”.

They said the video was shot in 2023 and not after his release after the Supreme Court granted him bail in March this year.

The Supreme Court has granted bail to Vishal Agarwal, who allegedly conspired to exchange blood samples to protect his son from legal consequences following a fatal accident in Pune in 2024.

The viral video shows Agarwal dancing with his wife and son in what appears to be a local restaurant while live music plays in the background.

Reaction to a viral video

The alleged video faced widespread backlash, with many questioning the “system”.

“I really don’t understand how people are celebrating bail when two people are dead. Every time the Porsche accident in Pune is back in the news, it gets uglier,” said a user on X.

“My blood is boiling. This is the family of the Porsche guy who killed two innocent engineers in a car accident. The defendant got bail and now look at them celebrating like he did something heroic. No regrets, no shame,” another user wrote.

Actor Prakash Raj also posted a video saying, “You can rape, kill, give hate speech, kill people in accidents… Our judiciary will surely grant bail. But … but .. but .. your name should not be #UmarKhalid.”

Another said: “This phrase carries the whole problem. Indian courts rarely end early. They take years. And if a serious trial takes long enough, it becomes a bail verdict.”

Suresh Koshta, father of one of the deceased, told ANI, “It must be a habit in their society to kill two people and then celebrate… They make a mockery of common citizens.”

“The law locks up the common man because it is the law that provides them with provisions to avoid punishment that if someone is a juvenile they can do anything…,” he said.

“The Supreme Court should give a judgment that would make people fear the law. There is no fear of the law anymore. If someone is punished by the high court, he is released by the high court. This encourages crime…,” he said.

He demanded that the accused’s bail be revoked and “his parents should be jailed. If it goes to the Supreme Court, they should not be released…”

Clarification of family problems, accusations of “mental trauma”

In a press release obtained by The Hindustan Times, Vishal Agarwal, the father of a minor accused in the Pune Porsche crash case, claimed that the video circulating online is from 2023, a year before the incident.

“The material aspect of the alleged video is that the said video was shot on September 2, 2023 regarding an event i.e. my 25th wedding anniversary which was celebrated in Goa,” Agarwal said.

He added that reports claiming the family was celebrating his release from prison were “false and wrong”.

The Goa hotel incident took place much before the Porsche car crash offense was registered at the Yerwada police station in Pune on May 19, 2024, the family’s legal team said in a statement, according to PTI.

She asked the media and channels to immediately take down the video and issue an explanation saying that the reports were based on false and defamatory information.

Agarwal said the circulation of the clip had caused mental trauma to his family and could prejudice the right to a free and fair trial, according to PTI.

He said the family was seeking legal help over the “leakage” of the private videos, which he termed as a violation of the right to privacy guaranteed by the Constitution, PTI reported.

He expressed concern that some individuals are trying to create a negative public perception amid ongoing legal proceedings.

Lawyer Dhvani Shah was quoted by PTI as saying that the video is not a recent footage but an old video from the wedding anniversary celebration held in 2023.

“The clip is being shared out of context, which has unfortunately led to unnecessary speculation and creating a misleading narrative. We request everyone not to jump to conclusions based on outdated content and refrain from spreading unverified information,” Shah said.

What is a Porsche crash case?

A Porsche allegedly driven by a 17-year-old minor rammed into a motorcycle in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area on 19 May 2024, killing two IT professionals.

The minor, who was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident, was released on bail within hours with an order to write a 300-word essay on road safety.

Vishal Agarwal was among the 10 accused arrested in connection with the alleged mix-up of blood samples of a minor driver and his two minor friends who were in the Porsche.

According to the prosecution, the minor’s blood samples were substituted with those of his mother at Sassoon General Hospital, allegedly with the help of two doctors, to cover up that he was under the influence of alcohol.
