Project success in the era of artificial intelligence will increasingly depend on how effectively organizations combine technology with human judgement, leadership and execution, said Amit Goyal, CEO, South Asia, Project Management Institute (PMI) at the institute’s annual PMSAC26 conference here on Saturday.
As AI reshaped jobs, business models and technology delivery, India’s strong technology ecosystem and its ability to adopt and scale new technologies was expected to position it well for the next phase of growth, he noted.
However, citing McKinsey’s State of AI report, Mr Goyal said only 39% of organizations report the impact of AI on corporate EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes), underscoring the challenge of translating adoption into measurable business results.
PMI is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization that serves millions of project professionals and change-makers around the world by providing standards, certifications, resources and networking opportunities to help them advance in their professions.
Addressing the conference on “Future-Ready Leadership in the Age of AI,” a broad spectrum of global industry leaders shared practical insights and strategies to explore together what it would take to turn the AI ambitions of businesses around the world into meaningful results.
Business leaders also addressed topics including how artificial intelligence is reshaping project success and project execution, as well as the growing importance of combining technology with strategic thinking, human judgment, adaptability, leadership and strong execution capabilities.
Johannes Heinlein, interim president and CEO of PMI, said during the interactive session that technical knowledge alone does not make a professional unique. “What’s critical today is learning, constantly updating and learning to stay relevant in the job market,” Mr. Heinlein said, adding, “While AI has taken away certain kinds of coding jobs, it has also created new kinds of career opportunities.”
