After complaints about drinking water contamination and water supply in some parts of Tiruchi Corporation, the cleaning of all overheads (OHT) and chlorinating water intensified.
The officials were instructed to clean the tanks and their valve pits every fortnight and monitor the quality of drinking water supplied at the department level daily. In places where underground drainage work takes place, officials should be checked every day by distribution lines of drinking water.
Health officials deal with water supply inspection, water supply, water chloring and monitoring of chlorine levels. Officials said the quality of water could deteriorate in the city after hitting.
“Steps are taken to prevent water contamination. All upper tanks will be regularly cleaned and water samples will be tested to control the water quality supplied to the residents,” the company’s head officer said.
Meanwhile, the civic body plans to expand the system of chloranization of the spot for all overheads in the city. The automated mechanism for adding chlorine to drinking water was installed in 20 pilot base tanks to prevent outages during water chlorination. The electric motor pump in the system automatically adds chlorinated water at the time of the tank.
After the test, the system should be installed in all OHTS. Currently, operators are connected to chlorine water tanks and about four liters of chlorinated water are added to each.
