Rain, thunderstorm bring relief in Gangetic Bengal till May 30

Rain and thundershowers are likely in various parts of Gangetic West Bengal till the end of this week, in relief for southern and western parts of the state, steamy in hot and humid conditions.
Kalaikunda in Jhargram district recorded the highest day temperature in the state at 41.5°C on Tuesday (May 26, 2026), followed by Medinipur and Jhargram, both of which recorded maximum temperatures of 39.4°C.
In North Bengal, light to moderate rain at a few places prevented the maximum temperatures from increasing. Malda city recorded the highest rainfall at 32.6 mm, followed by Rampurhat at 28 mm and Raiganj at 22 mm.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Gangetic West Bengal may see a drop of two to four degrees in day temperatures till May 30 due to thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds.
West districts of Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman and Jhargram sizzled with maximum temperatures hovering around or above 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday (May 26, 2026).
