
The state government decided to complete the measures for the upcoming southwestern monsoon season as quickly as possible. The decision was taken at a meeting, which was chaired here on Friday by the Minister of Income K. Rajan.
Action plans at regional level will be prepared in the districts of May 20, said Mr. Rajan. Training sessions are planned for quick activation of responses to incidents at the level of districts and taluk. The meeting decided to update the lists of people inhabiting places that are vulnerable to disasters.
The Friday meeting also ordered the government authorities to make sure that the measures prescribed in the Orange Book of Disaster Management published by Kerala State for Disasasters (KSDMA) were adopted before the monsoon. The updated version of this document is expected to be published by May 25.
Embossed camps
The local authorities were ordered to publish details of buildings identified for opening of relief camps. The measures for the monsoon season will be designed to manage the management of the Hamlets. The measures will be held in the regions susceptible to landslides programs of raising awareness. The warning will be displayed at tourist places, the government said.
Instructions for careful monitoring of water levels in the States in the State have also been issued and ensuring that the closures and spills in dams are functional.
Special reviews at the district level will take place in all districts in the first weeks of June, July, August and September. These meetings will be chaired by either the minister who has charges of the district or the collector of the district.
Sanitation
Local self-governing institutions were ordered to initiate pre-monsoon hygiene work and measures for eradication of mosquitoes. They were also ordered to ensure that the outflows and channels were cleaned of waste and residues before the rainfall is strengthened above the state.
The equipment needed for rescue and auxiliary operations will be supplied in all local bodies. The District Offices for Catastrophe (DDMA) will be sanctioned by the funds necessary for the purchase of the prescribed KSDMA equipment. Grama Panchayats will be sanctioned 1 lakh, municipalities 3 lakh and corporation 5 lakh.
