Protesting teachers who were busy on Thursday (May 15, 2025) continued their sit-in outside Bikash Bhawan, Directorate of the Ministry of Education in West Bengal, and continued protest overnight. Meanwhile, on Friday, May 16 (May 16), they justified their use as minimal.
The use of force has brought great criticism from opposition political parties. The leader of the opposition of Suvend Adhikari and other leader BJP Sajal Ghosh and Kaustav Bagchi met teachers on Friday evening. Congress organized a assembly to support this cause. At the beginning of the day, the leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) visited a protest place to condemn police brutality.
It came after the teachers who faced a police baton asked ordinary people to come out to support their belongings. Teachers said they did not want their protests to be politicized, but welcomed leaders who joined without the flags of the party.
Protesting teachers said that more than 30 colleagues were critically injured and hospitalized, with head wounds, broken limbs, eye injuries, and one allegedly suffered a stroke at a police action.
The rally was also discarded by the work of teachers from all over the city to express their solidarity for their colleagues and condemned police brutality.
“We used minimal strength, understand that they have lost their jobs, we have solidarity with their cause. But they broke the barricades, used strength to get inside Bikash Bhawan, and not allow more than 500 employees to leave the premises.
The police said that 19 staff were injured during clashes. The police realized the situation and registered the SUO Moto case against teachers.
“They call this minimal power? It left us with fractures, head and eye injuries and blood loss. Said Chintan Mondal, representative of the well -deserved teacher’s right.
Many of the injured teachers could see in front of Bikash Bhawan, even on Friday afternoon demanding immediate renewal without having to rediscover the test. “I was hit by batons, kicked me with their shoes, we started bleeding. They were critically injured my leg, but I don’t give up. I won’t go back home,” the injured teacher said.
The huge contingent of the fast action force and the police were present on the spot on Friday.
“We have never seen such a barbaric and brutal attack on teachers in any other state. The police work as Trinamool Cadre,” said Sukanta Majumdar, BJP MP Sabha, condemning the attack.
Teachers protest in front of Bikash Bhawan since May 7. Previously, teachers organized protests outside the WBSSC office for more than a week.
The protest was in response to the decision of the Supreme Court, which confirmed the annulment of approximately 26,000 appointments made during the recruitment process of the 2016 WBSSC, referring to discrepancies.
April 17. The Supreme Court allowed “unsuccessful” candidates to continue service until 31 December or until the new selection process is completed.
