Aman Sehrawat fights back from 6-7 to defeat world champion in Asian Games gold medal match

Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026 – Wrestling – Men’s Freestyle 57kg Final Match – Inae Sports Center, Nagoya, Japan – October 3, 2026 Aman celebrates victory in the Men’s Freestyle 57kg final match against Chong Song Han of North Korea Aman Sehrawat won the men’s 57kg freestyle gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday, beating world champion Han Chong Song of the People’s Republic of Korea 11-7 in the final.This is Aman’s second medal from the Asian Games. He won bronze in the same category at the Hangzhou 2022 edition.The final was close, with both wrestlers tied before Aman scored the first points to take the lead.Aman defended well against Han’s repeated attacks and quickly moved ahead 6-1 just after half-time with a series of well-timed attacking moves. However, Han responded with a strong counterattack and scored six points in quick succession to take a 7-6 lead.Aman then turned the match around with an important move that earned him four points. After Han’s failed challenge, he scored another point and put Aman back in front.The momentum shifted early after an injury delay, after which Aman quickly raced to a 6-1 lead. Another injury to the North Korean then helped him regain momentum and Han soon moved forward after taking down Aman in quick succession.With less than a minute remaining, Aman was able to break and turn his opponent to regain the lead. He then held on to complete the 11-7 victory and claim the gold medal.The gold is India’s second medal in freestyle wrestling at these Asian Games after Sujeet Kalkal won the 65kg gold on Friday.
