
Among the problems that were discussed at a meeting organized by the Thiruvananthapuram division with MPs of Keral and Tamil Nadu on Friday, they belonged to passenger equipment, introduction of new trains, other stops, expanding existing services and development of the station.
The meeting of the completed and ongoing development of the infrastructure of the constituency works according to the Jurisdiction of the Division, the railway said in its statement. The meeting was attended by MEPs and deputies representing the constituencies of Kanyakumari and Tiruneveli in Tamil Nadu with RN Singh, CEO of Southern Railway. It was also discussed in progress in the construction of new railway lines, extension of existing train services, double and electrification works and construction of the road across Mosty/roads below Mosty.
There is a focused effort to improve railway infrastructure in the regions falling into the Thiruvananthapuram division on the southern railway, the railway officials said.
The current work in Kerala includes the reconstruction of the VARKALA-SIVAGIRI station, the development of Thiruvananthapuram South as a coaching terminal and remediation of Thiruvananthapuram Central and Neyyattararara. Railway officials noted that Ernakulam appears as the main center with extensive reconstruction in the stations Ernakulam Town and Junction. Other main stations, such as Alappuzha and Kayamkula Junction, are rebuilt within the AMRIT Bharat scheme with lifts, waiting rooms and upgraded roofs.
In Tamil Nadu, the reconstruction of key stations such as NerCOil Junction and Kanyakumari under the AMRIT STATION Scheme program, with escalators, shelters on the platform and other modern equipment in the implementation, the railway said. The doubling of the NerCOIL Town-Nercoil Junction-Kanyakumari series was completed as part of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari project, the railway said.
Minister of the State Association Keral MPS State Suresh Gopi, Kodikkunnil Suresh, NK Premacandran, Shashi Tharoor, KC Venugopal, Anto Antony, Adoor Prakash, Hibi Eden, John Brittas and Haris Beeran and MPs Nadu C. Robert Bruce and Vijay Vasant. Manish Thaplyal, divisional railway manager, Thiruvananthapuram division and chief head of the Southern Railway Department were also present.
