Semicon design firm Spintronics, CEERI ink pact for GaN tech
Hyderabad-based Spintronics AI Semiconductors and CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI) have signed an MoU to collaborate on gallium nitride (GaN) technology.
A technology-focused strategic technology transfer and design partnership has been signed as part of the MoU, Spintronics said, announcing that it is the first company in the country to enter into such a partnership with CSIR-CEERI.
Spintronics and CSIR-CEERI will assess the feasibility of setting up a domestic GaN technology development and manufacturing facility in India. It will explore technology and infrastructure requirements, manufacturing options and potential pathways to boost domestic GaN semiconductor capabilities.
The collaboration will focus on transferring advanced GaN technology and design know-how from research and development to an industry-led semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, the company said in a release.
“India’s GaN semiconductor market is expected to grow from USD 224 million in 2026 to nearly USD 1.88 billion by 2033. This initiative can help India capture more of this value domestically,” said Spintronics Founder and CEO Raghu Varma.
GaN is a next-generation semiconductor technology with applications in defense and aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, RF communications, advanced telecommunications, power electronics, electric mobility and other high-frequency applications.
“This collaboration will strengthen the Indian GaN ecosystem,” said Manish Mathew, Scientist F, Head, Diamond Research Group, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani.
