The Telangana government has issued an ordinance revising auto travel charges. The minimum fare for 1.6 km has been set at ₹30 and for every additional kilometer it is ₹14.

According to the government’s order on Friday, the fare for rental vehicles between 11pm and 5am will be one and a half times the normal rate.

So far, the minimum base fare has been ₹20 and ₹11 for each additional kilometer.

It also includes details of additional baggage charges, instructions for connecting digital meters, meter setup time and other details. On commencement of operation of Hyderabad Metro-Telangana RTC Common Pass in Hyderabad, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that GO is released.

The meters should be set so that a minimum fare of ₹30 is recorded when the vehicle is listed as per the order. After 1.6 km, it moves up at the rate of ₹ 1.40 for every tenth of a kilometer.

The ‘detention charges’ are ₹0.75 per minute. It also lists ₹0.50 as charges for each package other than a briefcase, carry-on bag, any attached case or bag smaller than 60 x 40 cm.

“The Transport Commissioner shall provide a period of three months from the date of issue or order to convert the digital meter to the revised tariff for the existing meters,” the order said. Current and revised tariffs can be displayed in cars.

While most autorickshaw drivers don’t drive by meters, the new tariffs are likely to be incorporated into ride-hailing apps that customers will have to pay more for.
