India captain Shubman Gill on Wednesday made history by becoming only the second batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score multiple double centuries in the format.Gill reached the milestone in the 39th over, during India’s mammoth 406-run chase in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati.Before Gill, only Rohit Sharma (3) had two or more double hundreds in the 50-over format. Rohit has three double centuries to his credit.Gill grabbed the fastest ODI double hundred from Ishan Kishan, who needed 126 balls to do it. It was also only the second time a player had scored a double hundred in a run after Glenn Maxwell’s mad knock against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup.Fastest ODI 200s (by balls)

Shubman Gill’s first double ton came against New Zealand at Hyderabad on 18 January 2023 when he scored 208 runs off 149 balls.Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma (101 off 75 balls) also completed his century as the two openers put on a 255-run partnership to send India chasing a target of 406 runs.Rohit Sharma added another milestone to his illustrious ODI career during the match, becoming the seventh batsman to score 12,000 runs in men’s one-day internationals.Rohit reached the landmark with one off Roston Chase in the 16th over to become only the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to enter the 12,000-run club.Rohit has joined an elite list that includes Tendulkar, Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardena.In terms of innings, Rohit is the second fastest batsman to reach 12,000 ODI runs. Kohli reached the mark in 242 innings, followed by Rohit in 282 and Tendulkar in 300. Ponting took 314 innings while Sangakkara reached the milestone in 336.Rohit is also the second fastest on the mark in terms of balls faced. He reached 12,000 runs after facing 12,973 balls, behind Kohli’s 12,853.
