Sunil Kumar (Image credit: X) NEW DELHI: India won its first wrestling medal at the 2026 Asian Games after Sunil Kumar won bronze in the men’s 87kg Greco-Roman style on Wednesday.Sunil put in a dominant performance against Callum Johnston Roberts of the Philippines to win the match 9-0 by TKO.Sunil did not allow Roberts to score a single point during the match. The Indian wrestler collected points throughout the contest before completing a comfortable victory.The win gave Sunil a bronze medal and opened India’s medal account in wrestling at the Asian Games.Final score:Sunil Kumar (India) 9-0 Callum Johnston Roberts (Philippines)Sunil’s victory was recorded as a technical superiority victory, with the opponent unable to score any points.Sunil won bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, ending India’s 13-year wait for a Greco-Roman medal.Earlier, Ravinder Singh and Sunil Kumar Rana won bronze at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.The 27-year-old wrestler was left to fight for the bronze medal by Haryana after losing the semi-final by TKO to Japan’s Taizo Yoshida.
