IND vs WI: Centurion Justin Greaves ruled out of 2nd ODI due to calf injury
West Indies opener Justin Greaves, who scored a sensational hundred against India in the 1st ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, has been ruled out of the 2nd ODI due to a calf injury.
Greaves dominated the proceedings against India in the series opener, taking on the fast bowlers and giving West Indies a great start alongside John Campbell. The pair added 135 runs in the first 20 overs.
HOW WAS JUSTIN GREAVES INJURED?
Greaves’ cover runs were a delight to watch as he methodically dismantled the Indian fast bowling attack. However, the batsman struggled with injury for most of his 108-ball stay. He pulled his calf in the first 10 overs of the match and needed treatment from a physio.
“Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second match of the ODI series against India after suffering a calf injury,” Cricket West Indies said in a statement.
“Greaves suffered the injury during an inning in the series opener,” he added.
IND vs WI: 2nd ODI Preview
The hot and humid weather in Kerala made life difficult for the fast bowlers while Greaves also struggled to maintain his intensity throughout his innings.
Greaves was finally dismissed after completing his century in the 36th over, none other than Kuldeep Yadav, who helped India claw their way back into the game. Kuldeep’s 4/40 helped India recover from a difficult start to restrict the visitors to 295 for 7.
In response, India dominated the chase, courtesy of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, who added 151 runs between them. Gill anchored the innings while Kohli went on a sensational drive to help India chase down the target in just 41.4 overs.
The second ODI of the three-match series will be played in Guwahati on September 30.
