Namma Metro services on Bengaluru’s Whitefield line were temporarily disrupted after a tree branch fell on the track between ITPL stations and Sathya Sai Hospital as rain lashed Bengaluru on Tuesday evening.

According to BMRCL PRO BL chief Yeshwanth Chavan, movement of trains between Whitefield and Garudachar Palya stations was suspended from 6:00 pm to 6:35 pm due to track obstruction.

The disruption affected commuters on the Purple Line during the evening rush hour. BMRCL officials cleared the fallen branch and resumed operations shortly after.

“Trains are running as usual between Whitefield and Challaghatta,” Mr Chavan said, confirming that normal metro services had resumed after a brief disruption.

The rains brought traffic to a standstill as several roads and underpasses remained flooded. According to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), more than four trees were uprooted and several branches snapped.

Several junctions including ITI junction towards ITPL, Ashwathnagar junction towards Sanjaynagar, Veerannapalya junction towards Nagawara and Shantinikethan junction towards Hope Farm experienced slow traffic due to flooding.

Falling trees at Kasturinagar flyover towards Ramamurthynagar, Sanjaynagar main road and Old Madras Road service road disrupted traffic.

Apart from these incidents, flooding was reported on Hebbal flyover towards city, Chickpete Circle towards Sultanpete, Pipe Garden towards Kundalahalli, Yeshwanthapura towards Goraguntepalya, Varthur Kodi Road towards Whitefield, BGS Flyover, Binny Mill Underpass and Jayamahal Road, among others.

HAL Airport Road also witnessed slow-moving traffic, aggravated by underpass work at the wind tunnel junction.
