SIT set to file charges in ‘Gem Granites’ Veeramani POCSO case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the POCSO case against ‘Gem Granites’ Veeramani is likely to file the chargesheet in the Special Court for POCSO cases next week, police sources said.

The case was initially registered in October 2025 based on a complaint by a child rights activist who received a pen from an unidentified person that contained a video allegedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor girl. Police subsequently filed a closure report, citing difficulties in identifying the girl. However, the POCSO Special Court rejected the closure report and ordered further investigation.

Subsequently, the case was re-investigated and the police arrested Veeramani (84) and his perpetrators – Shanthi (60) and her husband Mahendra Simhan (63). One Ganesh who was an assistant at Gem Granites for 23 years was also arrested. Police identified the victim in the video and more than the victims came forward with their complaints.

A special investigation team was constituted under Additional Commissioner PCThenmozhi on September 24 to conduct further investigation into the case and related matters. As part of the investigation, the SIT recorded the statement of the bereaved before the judicial magistrate and collected the statements of her parents, besides other documents and materials related to the case. The SIT is now completing the remaining procedural formalities before filing the chargesheet in the POCSO special court, sources added.
