Just a few days after the election, Pope Leo XIV already makes subtitles – not only for his role as the head of the Catholic Church, but for his enthusiasm for tennis. The new Pope, known as a fan and regular player, amused during a meeting with the International Media on Monday, when journalists proposed to organize a charity tennis match.
“But we can’t invite Sinner”
In response to the idea of the Pope Leo, a joke that left the room to choke, “But we cannot invite Sinner,” said Jannika’s surname Sinner, the world’s tallest men and the English meaning “Sinner”.
Papen’s joke added a touch to the levity to the conversation, although Sinner, the Italian himself, probably did not expect to be the object of the Vatican pun.
Sinner replies, “Why do you have to make things difficult?”
Jannik Sinner, currently competing at the Italian Open, was asked for the Pope’s comments during the tournament. A 23 -year -old man replied with a smile, “Why do you have to make things difficult for me?”
He continued: “I obviously heard that (Pope Leo) played as a child. I think it is good for us to have tennis players to have a Pope who likes this sport we play.”
When one day he asked the opportunity to play tennis with the Pope, Sinner left the door open:
“We’ll see in the future. Who knows?”
Suspered season – and return
The exchange comes when Sinner continues his return after a three -month suspension that the World Anti -Doping Agency (WADA) passed in February. The prohibition stems from two positive Closebol tests, forbidden anabolic steroid, in March 2024.
Sinner was tested positively on Indian holes and again shortly after, even though the investigation came to the conclusion that the substance was unintentionally consumed. According to the international agency for the integrity of the tennis (ITIA), the Sinner team explained that the substance came from an over -the -counter spray used by a coach who treated a small blow.
Despite the ban on May 4, Sinner retained his three Grand Slam titles and returned in time to play in Rome. He will compete for his fourth major at the upcoming French open since May 25th.
