BJP seeks crop loan waiver, ₹50,000 per acre aid for farmers

The Telangana BJP demanded that the state government immediately convene a meeting of the State Banking Board (SLBC) to ensure complete waiver of crop loans taken by farmers during the current farming season and bank officials should be told not to approach farmers for loan repayments.

Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar said the government should provide compensation of ₹50,000 per cultivated acre to farmers who suffered monsoon crop losses and called for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) before the start of the upcoming Rabi season, with the government bearing the entire cost of the premium.

He warned that the government has been given time till October 21 to respond, failing which the BJP will organize a massive “farmers’ march” from Adilabad to Hyderabad starting on October 22.

Meanwhile, BJP Kisan Morcha state president Basvapuram Lakshminarsaiah said party chief N. Ramchander Rao would lead a delegation to Nalgonda district on Wednesday to assess crop damage and work with affected farmers. Many farmers have been unable to irrigate their fields due to power outages despite investing heavily in boreholes amid deficient rainfall conditions associated with El Nino.
